Civil service in Austria is a form of alternative military service in Austria. Since 1975, military service can be refused for reasons of conscience. Community service usually includes activities in the social environment and lasts nine months. Approx. 45% of fit men do their military alternative service because of a conscience. Women are not subject to conscription.
