He grew up with his fifteen siblings in Italy. At the age of 16, Franz came to Vienna as an „Kaiserlehrling“, where he was introduced to the business of an emperor by his uncle. His fiercest opponent was the Frenchman Napoleon Bonaparte, who had set himself the goal of smashing the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation and thus also Austria. He was interested in power, war, flora and fauna and liked to wear a frock coat.
