The first Fiaker license was granted in Vienna in 1693. In the prime of the period from 1860 to 1900 there were over 1,000 cars. Fiakers are a popular tourist attraction and offer tours around Vienna’s old town. In 2008 there were 144 Fiakers, half of which drive on even days and the other half on odd days. Many of these horse-drawn carriages are now over 100 years old. As part of a special examination, basic knowledge of the most important Vienna sights is required.
