An Austrian playwright, actor and opera singer. His work is the literary highlight of the old Viennese folk theater. The plays in the original – barely noticeable in later versions because of the „Verwienerung“ – consist of a mixture of high-level language, colloquial language and dialect. Many of his pieces are now part of the standard repertoire of German-speaking, especially Austrian, theaters.
