The reasons why the chimney sweep is considered a „real“ good luck charm can be explained with a historical look back to the Middle Ages. The fire in the fireplace was the center of a family’s life and meant warmth, light and security and, ultimately, warm food and warm water. But poisonous Rauchschwaden, caused by not cleaned chimney, destroyed this well-being. Since there was no regular cleaning of the chimneys, it was very lucky if a chimney sweep was present in time and did the job for little money.
